Why TanzaniaRewilded.

There are over 400 registered safari operators in Arusha alone. This page is our honest answer to the question you should be asking: why book with us instead of any of them? Six reasons, with evidence.

Our argument

The Short Version

One paragraph that summarises everything that follows.

We are not the biggest. We are not the cheapest. We are not the most famous. We are, however, the operator most likely to build the safari you will actually remember fifteen years from now — not because we are magic, but because we have made six stubborn, consistent choices over twelve years, and we refuse to compromise on any of them.

Six reasons, plainly stated

What Makes Us Different

Not taglines. Not values-blurbs. Six operational choices, each with evidence.
01

Our guides are specialists, not staff

Most Tanzania operators hire guides on a freelance basis — summoned per-trip, paid per-day, interchangeable. We employ our head guides full-time, year-round, with salary, benefits, and training budgets. The average tenure on our team is 14 years. One consequence: they are not trying to perform. They are doing work they know intimately. Another: they know each other. Your trip is run by a team that has worked together for a decade.

EvidenceOf our 12 senior guides, 9 have been with us for 8+ years. Two founding guides (Joseph Tumaini, Baraka Mwakalinga) are still in the field every week. Compare this to operators where guides change weekly.
02

Conservation is audited, not branded

Every safari operator in East Africa claims to support conservation. We publish an annual conservation report showing exactly where our 3% contribution goes, by partner, by project, by year. Our partners (Grumeti Fund, Frankfurt Zoological Society, Honeyguide Foundation, Asilia Africa's wildlife trust) verify and co-sign our numbers. If you want to see whose conservation work your money is actually funding, we can show you the exact project before you book.

EvidenceContributed $342,180 to conservation between 2018-2024. Annual reports available on request — we will send you the PDF during the enquiry process, not after you've booked.
03

Small trips, private vehicles, no exceptions

Your safari vehicle is yours alone. You are never combined with strangers. Private itineraries cap at 6 guests (one vehicle). We turn down requests for groups of 10+ clients wanting single itineraries — not because we dislike them, but because the wildlife encounters required are incompatible with that group size. This costs us bookings. We continue to say no.

EvidenceWe have turned down approximately $180,000 in group bookings over the past three years. We have lost zero regret over any of them.
04

Transparent pricing, line-by-line

Your itinerary PDF shows exactly where your money goes: accommodation by lodge (not combined), park fees broken down by park and by day, guide wages, vehicle costs, conservation percentage, our margin. We will not send you a single total. You will see every line, in US dollars, before you commit to anything.

EvidenceOur average margin is 18% (industry norm is 25-35%). You pay less because we charge less — not because we cut corners.
05

We turn down unrealistic trips

If you want to see the Great Migration river crossings in January, we will tell you they don't happen in January. If you want to summit Kilimanjaro in 4 days, we will tell you why your success rate just dropped to 35%. If you want to do both the Northern and Southern Circuits in 7 days, we will tell you the math doesn't work. Sometimes we lose the booking. More often, we get a grateful client with a trip that actually delivered.

EvidenceIn 2024 we revised or declined 23% of initial enquiries as described. Our client satisfaction in 2024 was the highest in our company history.
06

Twelve years in one location

We have been headquartered in the same building on Sokoine Road, Arusha, since 2012. Our accountant, our mechanic, our linen supplier, our logistics partner — all the same people for over a decade. This boring infrastructure is why your trip runs on time when a tire blows in the Serengeti at 4 p.m., why your dietary request actually gets met at a remote camp, and why the lodge knows us well enough to upgrade you.

EvidenceAverage response time to field emergencies: 47 minutes. We don't advertise this. It simply is.

What They Said

Three representative reviews. For the other 340+, see our Google profile or request the full list — we will send it.

Not our first safari — but the first where we felt our guide knew us personally. Joseph asked about our daughter's GCSEs on day one and remembered to ask how she'd done on day ten. That's the bit that matters.

They told me my February timing wouldn't work for what I wanted to photograph. Rescheduled me to July. I got every shot I'd planned and three I hadn't imagined. I'll be back with them.

We priced ten operators. They were the second-cheapest. Three operators were more expensive for inferior itineraries. I asked why, they explained it line by line, and we booked that afternoon. No regrets two years later.
